(Version 0.2)

What is it?

KDirAdm is a LDAP Directory management tool written for the KDE Desktop Environment version 2 or later. It aims to provide all of the functionality of most commercial directory management tools, including:

  • LDIF import/export

  • Creation/modification/removal of directory entities of all kinds

  • Browsing of all entities - including comprehensive searching

  • Schema Management (as much as is allowed by LDAP anyways)

Current Status:

This project works with current versions of KDE (3.5.x), however, it is unmaintained at this time. Should you be interested in the continuing development of KDirAdm, please contact us, and let us know.

Old Status Notes:

Version 0.2: This release adds preliminary LDIF Import support, as well as the ability to modify user entries in the directory. If you run into problems with the LDIF import, PLEASE send us a bug report... it imports our test files correctly, but LDIF is such an ugly file format, that we probably didn't think of every possible combination to try. Shadow password support is still missing as well, although this will be in the next release. This release should be considered stable at this point, although it still lacks some functionality.

KDirAdm is currently in version 0.1 - this is an initial release to "get the code out there". It currently will let you add and delete User entities and Organisational Units, but will not let you modify them. It is early beta code, and should be treated as such. It should not be used in a production environment, and may contain serious bugs, memory leaks, etc.

Currently, KDirAdm only handles cleartext passwords. That, coupled with the fact that it only does LDAP, not LDAP over SSL, means that any passwords that you set or look up with this tool can be seen by anyone with a sniffer between you and the server.
